The Bournemouth Town Centre BID (Business Improvement District) and Michael Grubb Studios contracted Ecologic Developments to assist with the design and to build a series of outdoor interactive lighting installations which formed a key part of the Bournemouth Gardens of Light Christmas festival.
Each of the ten installations had to meet a very tough set of requirements, they had to be virtually bombproof, to withstand tens of thousands of visitors during the day and be secure at night, they had to withstand the worst that the weather could throw at them, and they had to be a flexible space, to allow them to house a range of ideas and the delicate technologies required to bring these ideas to life.
Each finished ‘Lightpod’ built by Ecologic resembled a pure white beach-hut like structure from the outside and was filled with light and colour on the inside. In 2013, they won two major international awards – a Lighting Design Award for Best Exhibition, and a Design Week Award for Best Exhibition Design.
In 2014 they helped bring an estimated 750,000 to Bournemouth town centre to visit the Gardens of Light.
“Ecologic Developments more than fulfilled our brief, constantly coming up with creative and imaginative solutions, which greatly contributed to the overall success of the project. Working within tight budget constraints and a short programme, the end result was incredibly high quality and something we are all very proud of.
Pete and his team are a pleasure to work with, they are approachable, committed and an extremely talented resource. We could not have delivered the award winning project without them. We have every intention of working with Ecologic Developments again – and I would not hesitate to recommend them on any project where imagination and quality construction is at the forefront of the project brief.”
